Z versus S?

Recognise – Recognize, Realise – Realize, Memorise – Memorize, etc.

Meet again readers! đŸ˜‰

Today, I will talk about..

We are often confused as to whether to use the letter s or z to spell words similar to the ones shown above. In the past, only s was accepted by teachers and examiners alike because it is the letter the British use when they spell such words. Australians also prefer the use of s.

Americans, on the other hand, spell such words with a z. Nowadays, the  American spelling is also accepted. So, students can use either s or z but we should be consistent throughout their writing.

  • If they use s, then we should try to use s every time they spell such words.
  • If they use z, then we should use z throughout their writing.

For example:

She realised that she did not recognize anybody in the room. (WRONG)

# SO, the sentence can be written in two ways:

  • She realised that she did not recognise anybody in the room.

OR

  • She realized that she did not recognize anybody in the room.

Okay readers, thats all for now. bye! đŸ™‚
